InCHIP VPN

vpn-securityInCHIP IT provides remote access services for Faculty, Staff and Students with an InCHIP ID. A VPN, as its name suggests, is just a virtual version of a secure, physical network—a web of computers linked together to share files and other resources. But VPNs connect to the outside world over the Internet, and they can serve to secure general Internet traffic in addition to corporate assets. In fact, the lion’s share of modern VPNs are encrypted, so computers, devices, and other networks that connect to them do so via encrypted tunnels. If you have services that you wish to limit access from the rest of the University we can provide you that access through our VPN. InCHIP’s VPN will also provide you access to other University resources as if you were physically on the Storrs campus network.

Options

InCHIP IT provides remote access services for Faculty, Staff and Students with an InCHIP ID using one or both of the following methods:

Junos Pulse Client: This is the preferred method for connecting to the VPN.

For instructions to connect to the VPN using a Windows Computer please click here.

Connecting VIA the Web: This allows access to InCHIP resources without having to install software onto your computer. This can be accomplished via logging into the VPN Server at http://vpn.chip.uconn.edu

Features and Benefits

  • Connect from Anywhere: VPNs enable mobile employees, telecommuters, business partners and others to take advantage of locally available, high-speed broadband access — such as DSL, cable or even wifi — to gain access to the company’s network. Additionally, high-speed broadband links offer a cost-effective method for connecting remote offices
  • Security in the Public: Establish an encrypted connection from your location to our network. This is especially important when traveling and using pulic WiFi and Hotspots. Just about anybody can gain access to this information fairly easily using a simple and readily available program. It can expose your usernames, passwords, and other sensitive information.
